bACKGROUND
As a member of the CADRI Secretariat team in Geneva, I play a key role in implementing the CADRI Communications & Marketing Strategy, with a strong focus on digital and visual communication. My responsibilities include the design, layout, and development of user-friendly and visually appealing communications products, both online and in print.
Also, I worked closely with a network of UN agencies such as FAO, IOM, OCHA, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO, I ensure that all materials—from websites to graphic assets—effectively communicate CADRI’s mission. My role involves creating intuitive designs that enhance the user experience while maintaining a cohesive brand identity across various platforms.
website design
Clarify the purpose of the website—whether it's for information dissemination, promoting partnerships, or hosting CADRI knowledge products—and ensure all communication strategies align with these goals.
I study the existing CADRI Branding Guidelines and ensure the website aligns with CADRI's brand identity in terms of colors, fonts, logos, and overall tone. Consider how this will visually translate to the web format. Then followed the CADRI Branding Guidelines, I designed the CADRI website. Including website banners and graphic materials.
When doing the design, I also need to ensure the design meets accessibility standards (WCAG compliance) and is responsive across devices (mobile, tablet, and desktop).
Develop a clear and intuitive site map that organizes content logically.

layout design
Besides website, I am also responsible for digital communication product design, including report, flyer and other internal/external visual assets. When designing communication materials like the Policy Maker Digest, Annual Report, Flyer, and other digital CADRI Communication Products, the goal is to ensure that each piece communicates information clearly, reflects the organization’s identity, and engages the target audience.
A few design principles need to be followed. In terms of design trends, look for modern elements that can elevate the materials while maintaining a professional tone. Incorporating features like infographics, visual storytelling, clean typography, and minimalist layouts can help make the reports and flyers visually engaging while ensuring the message remains clear and digestible. It's crucial to strike a balance between aesthetics and functionality to ensure the materials are both eye-catching and informative.
Another key aspect is brand alignment. It's essential to familiarize yourself with CADRI’s brand guidelines, including colors, logos, and fonts, to ensure consistency across all designs. Maintaining a cohesive brand identity helps build recognition and ensures that all communication materials, whether digital or print, reflect CADRI’s core values and mission.

For the Annual Report, divide the content into well-defined sections like an introduction, achievements, financials, and future goals. Including a table of contents, clear headings, and visual breaks between sections will help guide the reader through the report’s more detailed data and narratives.
For the Policy Maker Digest, the priority is brevity, with easily scannable headlines, key messages, and visual data such as charts. Bullet points and concise sections can help distill complex information into digestible pieces, ensuring the document is both informative and accessible.

In the case of Flyers, concise copy with bold calls to action (CTAs) and visually appealing graphics should be prioritized, as the goal is to communicate key information quickly and effectively within a limited space.
Typography is another critical element of the visual design. Select fonts that align with the brand guidelines but are also legible across different materials. For the Policy Maker Digest, bold headlines and bullet points should be used to emphasize key messages, whereas the Annual Report should employ a more formal, professional font with sufficient spacing to maintain readability across long sections of text.
Incorporating infographics and icons will enhance the digestibility of complex data, allowing readers to quickly grasp the key takeaways. Icons can help break up text-heavy sections and provide visual cues, such as statistics, key achievements, or timelines. Additionally, high-quality photography and imagery should be used to humanize CADRI’s work. Relevant images, such as those depicting fieldwork or partnerships, can visually engage the audience and complement the written content.
Finally, ensure that the CADRI logo is prominently displayed on all materials without overpowering the design. Proper logo placement is important for maintaining brand visibility while ensuring that it doesn't detract from the content itself.
